About The Artist
I have been making jewelry professionally for almost 30 years. After growing up in Central Oregon, my metals career began during a 7-year stint as a dental technician. I was trained to make the gold work for crowns and bridges and learned metal working fundamentals. Jewelry exploration began after taking a silversmithing class during a time I lived in Alaska in the 90’s. I realized that I already possessed many of the needed skills so I started practicing and studying. I continue to attend classes and workshops to broaden my knowledge and refine my skills.
In 2011 I devoted myself full-time to creating contemporary jewelry working out of my home studio in Bend, Oregon. I sell my work at juried art shows throughout the west and on my website www.suzywilliamson.com.
My designs all speak to my love of pattern and texture. Currently I am exploring fusing, a process that allows metals to be joined together by melting the opposing surfaces without the use of solder. It feels like painting with metal. I create abstract compositions with varying shapes and contrasting colors of high carat gold and silver, which are then used to craft each individual piece. Texture is added by roll printing and a patina is often added to highlight the texture. Stones often added to accent the metalwork.
