Heather Rison was born in 1986 in Sacramento, California. She started her art education in 2011, studying under Jeffrey Hein as one of 16 apprentices for the next 3 years, followed by assisting Bryce Billings, who won The Portrait Society's William Draper Grand Prize and People's Choice Award in 2014. She also had Leroy Transfiled, Deon Duncan, and Kraig Varner as sculpture mentors from 2014 until 2018. Currently working on her own projects for shows, public artworks, and commissions in Salt Lake City, Utah, she finds fulfillment in not only sculpting figures but also painting them.
"Sculpting and painting, for me, is a way to explore the human condition. By using the figure, I can express feelings and ideas about the lives we live. My most current works explore self-discovery, reflection, and connection with oneself through meditation.
The human form is the most honest and rewarding way to express my own emotions and ideas. Nudity in my work symbolizes vulnerability. Showing that you have nothing to hide is the purest form of art to me. I love to incorporate texture and color into my pieces to add dimension and a fresh perspective to more traditional figurative work.

During this year's show I will be presenting some new pieces inspired by my recent trip to Italy, where I learned how to carve in marble. These new small concept pieces will be scaled-down versions of larger concepts that I will explore in future work in marble. I’m also excited to be displaying older works in a new perspective, compartmentalizing previous pieces in new ways that allow beginning collectors an accessible entry point to collect my work. I will have female and male figures available in multiple materials such as bronze, ceramic and resin.
