New to Spring 2025!
As a ceramic artist, my motivation is driven by a desire to create something entirely new as an expression of form, texture and original finishes. I feel I push the boundaries of traditional ceramics, fusing innovation with craftsmanship to build pieces that invite viewers to see my sculpture through a fresh lens. Each piece I create reflects my background in the art field. For the past twenty years I have worked in antiques and a gallery as an art director. This translates into my art by blending modern techniques with ancient traditions. I aim to forge an emotional connection between my work and its audience and want people to feel something deeper when they see my pieces. I hope the viewer also finds enjoyment in the movement of my shapes and the fluidness of my glazes. In my opinion ceramics holds a unique power to communicate because it is deeply rooted in human history. I believe that art at its core should reach beyond mere aesthetics. It should inspire and provoke thought. Through my work, I allow the medium to speak in ways that words cannot by creating something never done before and challenge the boundaries of what's capable with ceramic art. Hope you enjoy, John.
My pieces are all hand built using the coil technique. Currently I'm experimenting with mixed media, incorporating steel with my ceramics. My glazes are mostly from recipe and if commercial glazes are involved I incorporate them into my recipes changeing the make up of the glaze. All pieces are original and dont follow a theme, I approach each project with a "how can I challenge myself today" mentality.
