I love to make glass! I have wanted to blow glass for as long as I can remember. I collected antique bottles with my dad when I was a kid and he would tell me how they hand made which boggled my mind how the molten glass could be made with bare hands! I tried a few bottles in the fire when I was a kid only to be disappointed with the results. When I was 20 I took a glass blowing class at Shasta College in Redding California and I have been hooked ever since. I currently run my glass studio in Eureka California and have been focusing on making anemone patterns on vases.
I will be show casing my latest Anemone series of blown glass vases were I create rods of glass called murrine and then slice the rods into disks to reveal the patern on the inside. These discks of glass get rolled into a bubble that is shaped into a vase or sculpture that I feel best shows their gelatinous patterns. I also have a serries of starfish and starfish sculptures that pair well wth the Anemone serries. The starfish have a thick layer of clear on top of them that magnifies the color on the bottom to look like it is almost wet and was just pulled from a tide pool.
