After a career in finance, I turned
to the visual arts. Accepted into
The Artist Foundation—a Bostonbased
guild supported by the
National Endowment for the
Arts—I began the two-decade
journey that shaped me into the
artist I am today.
Descended from my great-greatgrandfather,
19th-century sculptor
Charles Champagne, and raised by
a design-engineer father and a
watercolorist mother, I naturally
blend two and three-dimensional
approaches in my work.
Over the years I’ve built a strong
foundation in traditional
techniques, but my daily practice
is driven by experimentation and
exploration. I’ve studied with
artists such as the Bubbaco family
in Venice, Italy, and that influence
has helped shape my hybrid
painting-sculpture works, which
have won awards and attracted
collectors nationwide.
My art is a tangible conversation between nature and the human hand, fueled by my enchantment with the magical world of color, texture, movement, and mood. I'm obsessed with materials and techniques, driven by the challenge of creating something both delicate and powerful, something that captures the essence of nature's vibrant energy.
I believe true art transcends traditional media. So, I constantly push the boundaries between painting and sculpture. This is essential when attempting to mirror the wonder of a nature experience. I often find myself reverse-engineering forms and processes found in nature, seeking to understand their genesis. This serves as a guide for my designs – what is the bee’s allure to a flower? The pull of energy. My goal is to capture that energy and translate it into my art, inviting the viewer to experience its depth and power firsthand.
