Along with the whimsical subject matter, I try to let the colors vibrate at a high level and generate a feeling of warmth and fun.

I build up my canvas with multiple layers of paint and glazes. I often incorporate texture through molding paste and paper. Once I finish creating the image, I then sand the painting to bring forward glimpses of previous layers of color. Finally, I complete the piece with several layers of a high gloss varnish.

This technique gives a slight distressed but highly polished look that pulls you further into the art.
