New to Spring 2025!
My inspiration is experiential, derived from my love of the simple beauty that I encounter in everyday life, mostly while driving. Collecting images in silence to store in my archives and draw upon during the physical exploration of my work in either medium. The painting process involves buidling up layers of paint or wax, then removing it again over and over, finally scraping or carving areas of color to reveal the underlying story. The moody, simple landscapes that emerge expose my connection to my environment and my history, and invites each viewer to reflect on their own experiences.
Approaching the canvas sculpturally, using unconventional tools, I thickly layer medium onto each canvas. I do this using oil paint, cold wax & gels, applying over and over again, wet on wet, allowing the image to develop organically. Then using a sgraffito style of mark making in the surface of the paint, I carve areas away. This exploration and excavation of the surface leads to the discovery of the color and story beneath while creating dynamic and energetic movement.
