I have been making photographs for over four decades. The images I capture are my memories of amazing places I have been and the incredible sights I have witnessed along the way. I fell in love with international travel at an early age when I hitchiked around the British Isles and Ireland for 4 months back in the 1980s. I met so many incredible people from all walks of life, not only the locals, but from other travelers from countries across the globe. I learned so much about myself and of others. How we are similar, how we are different, how people/cultures/countries were portrayed in the media and how often things were dfferent when you experience things for yourself. I learned the importance of reading between the lines and the dangers of seeing the world through others' eyes.
That experience was truly life changing and set me on a path to explore this beautiful marble we call Earth. I have since traveled extensively, touching almost all continents. I've kayaked the frozen Arctic, traversed to Asia to explore the largest cave on the planet, flown over erupting volcanoes in Iceland, scaled thousand foot coral dunes in Africa, swam under the ice sheet of Siberia's Lake Baikal and with pirannha in the Amazon Basin... and captured them all in photographs.
My work brings to life these incredible sights and landscapes that few will ever have the privilege to see for themselves. They are not merely 'pretty pictures', but they are statement pieces. They urge you to spend time with them, taking you away from your daily routine, so that you can lose yourself inside imagery. Hopefully they will encourage you to escape from the daily grind of our lives, so that you can also set out to explore the world outside your door... and especially across your border.
The images I capture can be categorized as the following:
Images that move your soul and Images that stir your mind.
Images that move your soul are sights of unimaginable beauty. These works invite you to get lost inside; acting as an escape from the stresses of everyday life. They untangle knots. They free the mind.
Images that stir your mind are statement pieces. These works are often jarring, and in some cases can shake you to the core. These works ilicit a visceral, emotional response. They stimulate. The energize. They are compelling. These are not pieces that sit anonymously on the wall. These works command the attention of all that are caught in its gaze. These works invite conversation...interaction... to be looked at.
I will have work from both categories at the show, so I hope to see you there. Be ready to be drawn into our glorious world.
