I have been doing embroidery since i was 10 years old.
I enrolled at the Academy of Art in China to learn watercolor and textile design. There, I developed a passion for Japanese embroidery. I became formally trained in Japanese embroidery art at the Osaka Academy of Art, and continued on to obtain my master’s degree at Kobe University. After completing my studies in Japan, in 1996, I immigrated to the U.S. to launch my career as a fiber artist.
Each of my pieces starts with a watercolor base on silk, which I then enhance with needle and hand threaded embroidery. I use layers of color and shading to express the grass swaying in the breeze, to express the ocean's depth, I used satin shading stitches, and use loose spacing stitches for the sky so the watercolor remain visible.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind.
